Kanin Alp-Mount Kanin is the highest resort in Slovenia

Kanin is Slovenia's highest ski resort where the slopes spread higher than 2000 m. It lies above Bovec with a view over the world-renowned Soca Valley. Kanin is a high-mountain ski area, and its skiing season lasts from December to the May 1st holiday because of its high altitude.

This ski area is never crowded and is distinguished by its sunny location and a view that stretches from the heart of the Alps to the Adriatic Sea.

Kanin stands out from other resorts due to its amazing location within the famous Soca Valley, with the turquoise waters of the Soca River nearby. Incredible views in all directions and a view reaching to Venice and the Adriatic coast make skiing at Kanin a unique experience.

How to get there? It is only about one and a half hours drive from Ljubiana, the capital of Slovenia. On the way, you can see beautiful greeneries, crystal clear streams of rivers, particularly the Soca River. Kanin is one of the most popular holiday resort in Bovec.

Take a cable car ride, to bring you to the hill top. It will cost you Eur13/-. For the more sporty visitors, you may also walk up along the track. Of course, this will take sometime to reach the destination.

After you get out of the cable car, you will see many visitors with well equiped with skiing attires

Travel to Bovec in Slovenia, another interest place to travel

Another Interesting place I went this summer, Bovec, the mountain resort and the small ancient alpine town which is over 800 years old.

Bovec is located in northwestern Slovenia in the Trenta valley of the Julian Alps within the Triglav National Park. This is one of the most beautiful places in Europe! It features the source of the river Soca, one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe and the 106m high Boka waterfall.

Bovec is one of Europe's top centres for extreme and adventure sports including hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, canyoning, whitewater rafting and skiing. Located at 2200m, Kanin near Bovec is Slovenia's highest ski centre.

Our lodging in Kanin Hotel have private bathroom, cable TV and telephone. All meals are buffet style, there is a good choice for vegetarians. The restaurant is fully air conditioned. There is Wi Fi at the hotel, also Internet access at the Culture House.

Nice scenic view from the balcony of our hotel room.

Chinese New Year Eve In Singapore

Shoppers have started buying their needs as oppose to window shopping earlier. But there are still many wait and see shoppers hoping to buy at a cheaper price. The price of goodies are usually cheaper nearer to the New Year day. Suprisingly, this is not so for this year. Some goods are completely sold out before the Chinese New Year Eve. They have to source for other stuffs for sale in place of the existing.

The tangerines plant, peach blossom, pussy willows are the popular plants to display for Chinese New Year.

On New Year Eve, the crowds are there to enjoy the ambience and to join the count down to welcome the Ox year with fireworks. 'Gong Xi Fa Cai' is the phrase use to wish each other for properous new year. The streets remain busy even at 4.00am in the morning.
Many people are still waiting to grab bargain items. Huge crowds are still surrounding the stall for auction of crystals, jade, paintings, curios and other auspicious ornaments like 'Pi Xiu', the legendary animals. It is believed that sucessful bidding of these items will bring good luck. Why not?

Chinese New Year in Singapore

To all Chinese, New Year is the greatest festival. This Lunar New Year falls on 26th January 2009.

As the date is drawing near, many Chinese have already prepared to welcome this Year of the Ox. The Ox is one of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese Calendar.

The Chinese zodiac is a 12 years cycle. Each year of the 12 year cycle is named after one of the original twelve animals. Each animal has a different personality and different characteristics. The animal is believed to be the main factor in each person's life that gives them their traits, success, and happiness in their lifetime. The twelve animals of astrolgy are : Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig. These twelve animals are rotating their turns in this sequence.

Their preparations include changing anything new wherever possible, like changing new clothing and new personal attires, house cleaning, hanging up new year decorations, stocking up Chinese New Year goodies such as cakes, sweets, oranges, love-letters, melon seeds and new ornaments.

In Singapore, Chinatown is the busiest spot for shopping new year goodies during this festive season. Many stalls are specially set up along the streets for rental usually around three weeks before Chinese New Year. There are many stalls selling various kinds of goodies from anything to everything. You can find all your festive needs at one visit to Chinatown.
Surely, Chinatown in Singapore is a must visit place if you are in Singapore.
