There are many symbolic icon in old Riga. Among them are the Latvian National Opera and Riga Orthodox Cathedral.

The Riga Orthodox Cathedral
The Cathedral was built between 1876 and 1884. The yellow brick church, crowned by five gilded cupolas was turned into a planetarium during the occupations by the Soviet and was finally returned to its congregation in 1990 and re-established as a church in 1991. The Soviet has destroyed many of the church ornate works of art. Much of the Cathedral has now been restored to its former glory.
